Terms of use

The daily puzzle is free. Two things are for sale, and this is what they are.

Hexwalls PRO is an auto-renewing annual subscription at $3.99 per year (or the equivalent in your local currency). Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase. It renews automatically for a further year unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and your account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before that. You can manage or cancel it at any time in your Apple Account settings.

Using the app

Hexwalls is licensed, not sold, to you. The licence for the software is Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, which applies in full: apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. The terms on this page are in addition to it and describe what the app offers and what the purchases inside it buy. Where the two genuinely conflict, the Standard EULA governs the licence and this page governs the purchases.

By downloading or using Hexwalls you accept both. If you do not, do not use the app.

The daily puzzle is free

One puzzle is published each day. It is the same puzzle for everybody, it is rated 1 to 10 rather than chosen, and it costs nothing on the day it lands — that is the product, and it is not going to start costing something. The day turns over at your own local midnight.

The website plays the last seven days in a browser with no account and no purchase. It is a demonstration of the app: it sells nothing, it cannot restore anything bought on a phone, and a puzzle finished there does not post a time.

What is for sale

Both are sold by Apple through the App Store. Payment details go to Apple and never to us; we are told only what your Apple Account has bought.

Nothing bought is taken away

Having held the PRO subscription at any point opens the archive permanently, exactly as buying the archive outright does. If you cancel PRO, you keep every past daily puzzle and every PRO board you already finished; what ends is access to new PRO boards. A subscription here is never "keep paying or lose what you had".

A refund is the one thing that reverses a purchase, because a refunded transaction is one that was paid for and then unpaid for.

Renewal and cancellation

Restoring what you own

Purchases are tied to your Apple Account, not to a device. Restore purchases, on the purchase screen and in Settings, brings back everything that Apple Account has bought — including archive access earned by a subscription that has since lapsed.

Refunds

All payments are handled by Apple, so all refunds are Apple's to give. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue a refund ourselves, though if something is broken we would like to hear about it — see below.

The leaderboard

Finishing a puzzle publishes a row — your time, your hints, whether assist was on, and your Game Center alias — to the board for that puzzle. It is public to other players. Please do not attempt to falsify a time, disrupt the boards, or publish a name that is abusive or impersonates somebody. We may remove a row or a name that does any of those.

Availability

Puzzles are generated ahead of time and delivered through Apple's iCloud. We do not run a server of our own. We aim to publish a puzzle every day and to keep the boards working, but the app is provided as it is: we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and to the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you paid us — which for most players is nothing. Nothing here limits any right you have as a consumer that cannot be limited.

Changes

If these terms change, this page changes with them and the date below moves. A change to the subscription price would be announced in the app first, and Apple asks you to confirm any price rise before it takes effect.
